Dogfish Head Chicory Stout
WWED Grade: B

Appearance: Dark.
About an inch of head on the initial pour, but that quickly dissipated. Not
quite as dark as something like the Mikeller, but you’d still have a hard time
seeing light through it.
Smell: Great classic stout-like smell. The coffee is very
present.
Taste: Very
good. Definitely a recognizable stout. Not sure what the Chicory or Mexican
coffee added to this – but nonetheless a great beer. Got slightly bitter as it
warmed up.
Drinkability: Very drinkable. Slightly more carbonated than you might expect a stout
to be – but I like it. Might even say I prefer it.
ABV: 5.2%
Serving Type: Bottle poured in goblet
I may be a little biased
towards Dogfish – but that probably won’t come across much in this review. I
love love LOVE this brewery. But honestly, this stout didn’t completely blow me
away. Yes – it was very good. Not sure if the Mexican Coffee or Chicory
ingredients were necessary. Maybe my palette just isn’t quite refined enough to
decipher those specific flavors. I did pick up on the general “coffee” flavor
in this beer. That’s obvious. It was easy to drink and very flavorful – I like
that too. But it just didn’t blow me away. Definitely worth having – but not
the best I’ve ever had. Keep’em comin’ Dogfish – you know I’ll be drinkin’ ;-)
